  • Felony trial and Circuit Court files: contact Albemarle Circuit Court, 350 Park Street, Charlottesville, VA 22902, at (434) 972-4083 or the criminal line at (434) 972-4085; the clerk's office is open weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • Misdemeanor and felony preliminary files: contact Albemarle General District Court at the same 350 Park Street address, (434) 972-4004, weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • Booking, custody, and release records: call ACRJ Records, 160 Peregory Lane, Charlottesville, VA 22902, at (434) 977-6981 extension 303; Records is open weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • Virginia criminal-history report: use Virginia State Police and CCRE for the consent-based SP-167 process; ACPD no longer conducts local background checks
  • Expungement or sealing filings: confirm the current process with Albemarle Circuit Court; even a qualifying Albemarle misdemeanor expungement petition is filed in Circuit Court

There is no single sheriff's records counter for all of these documents. ACPD holds its own police reports, ACRJ maintains jail records, and the two Albemarle clerks maintain their respective court files. A Scottsville Police report begins with the Town rather than ACPD. Charlottesville has separate city agencies and courts despite the Charlottesville mailing address used by Albemarle offices.
